The badge Lepus Gloriosus (Heroic Hare) is a faithful replica of one of the most bizarre medieval battle scenes, which comes from the winter section of the French Breviary of Renaud de Bar (Yates Thompson MS 8) from 1302-1303. The original illumination, housed in the British Library in London, depicts a valiant hare with shield and spear taking on his canine rival in a jousting tournament. Instead of a horse, however, he mounted a giant snail with a bearded human head. This famous scene is a supreme example of medieval satire, absurdity and the unbridled imagination of the illuminators of the time. This unique motif can adorn your lapel as an original, precisely laser engraved and detailed hand-painted oak plywood badge.

The Codex Marginalium series brings a playful revival of medieval manuscripts in the form of original badges that represent a unique combination of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship. The motifs are based on medieval marginalia - bizarre, humorous and often absurd scenes from the margins of historical manuscripts. These faithful replicas are transferred by precision laser engraving into quality oak plywood and then hand-painted in detail, making each piece a complete original. The overall distinctive humour and character of each badge is further emphasised by the playful Latin, or rather pseudo-Latin, name.
