Rome, erotic token Spintria VI, 1st century, coin replica
Spintria belongs among the most intriguing small artefacts from the early Roman Empire. These small metal tokens, often made of bronze or brass alloy, appear mainly in Rome in the 1st century AD.
One side bears an erotic scene, the other a number in Roman numerals. The purpose of spintriae is still not entirely clear. They may have served as entrance tokens for baths, tokens for certain services in brothels, or even as gaming pieces or parts of games with an erotic theme.
This replica depicts a token marked with the number VI, framed by a laurel wreath. The other side shows a finely modelled scene of lovemaking beneath a canopy. Thanks to high-quality zinc and a subtle patina, it feels authentic and resembles real archaeological finds from Pompeii or Ostia. It is a small but expressive reminder of Roman openness toward physicality and humor, making it a fine addition to a collection or a gift for lovers of antiquity.
