This pencil holder with a knight figure is made of lead-free pewter and features a 3D model of a knight from the 1400-1500 period with a closed armet helmet and richly decorated plate armour. His weapon is a one-handed sword (arming sword). It comes on a 13 cm long black wooden pencil with inscription:
"Defend the weak, be courteous to all women, be true to your king and always serve God. The Knight's Code of Honor." - printed in silver ink.
In the early Middle Ages, armoured knights ruled the battlefield. They usually fought on horseback and were trained in the use of weapons such as the sword, spear and battle axe.
By the 15th century, a fully armed knight was almost entirely encased in armour. However, thanks to the skills of late medieval armourers, he was not as restricted in his movements as one might think - the joints of the armour allowed a relatively large freedom of movement.
