Medieval plate sabatons, pointed, 14th century, steel 1,5 mm, pair
In the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance, sabatons (also known as sollerets or solerets) were part of plate armour that protected the instep and sides of the foot. They were most often worn by mounted knights to protect their feet from blows from foot adversaries.
These wearable articulated sabatons are based on 14th century designs. They are hand forged from 1.5 mm thick steel, blackened on the inside for better protection against corrosion and fitted with riveted leather straps on the underside. They have no sole and consist of a tapered pointed toe, several articulated bands (slats), an ankle plate, a 'tongue' plate and a heel cap, all parts being joined by fixed rivets.
This articulated foot protection is suitable for both historical reenactment and LARP.
