Sámi shamanism is a traditional spiritual practice of the Sámi, the indigenous people of northern Scandinavia. Shamans, called "noajdde" or "nåjd," communicate with spirits and gods through drums and chanting to heal illness, predict the future and ensure harmony between people and nature. Nature magic and the belief in animism, where all living beings and natural phenomena have a soul, also play an important role. Sámi shamanism is deeply rooted in Sámi culture and traditions and is still practised today, despite facing historical repression.
