Shashka (shashka) is a type of sabre, originally from the North Caucasus and later used by the Cossacks. It is one-handed, single-nosed, slightly curved and without a guard. Translated, it means "long knife".

The earliest depictions of this weapon date to the late 17th century, although most surviving sabres date to the 19th century. Later, this weapon was adopted by most Cossacks in Ukraine and Russia. There are two types of shashkas: the Caucasian (Circassian) shashka and the Cossack shashka.

Blades were even made in Germany, especially in Solingen.
