History and meaning of Tryzub
Tryzub is a small state emblem of Ukraine, which was officially adopted by the Ukrainian Constitution in 1996. Its design is based on the work of artist V. Krychevskyi's design from 1918.
However, the history of the Tryzub goes back much further. The earliest evidence of its existence dates back to the Kievan Rus around 1000 AD. The Tryzub can be found on the signs of the rulers and coins of the Rurikovs, who used it as their heraldic emblem.
The exact meaning of the Tryzub is still not fully explained, but there are many theories. It is believed that the Ukrainian Trident is of Tatar origin and represents a stylized falcon. In modern interpretation, the Tryzub is often associated with the word WOLJA/VOLYA, meaning freedom.
