A replica of a belt ornament inspired by an ornament from the Vendel period (Sweden, 6th-8th century). Brass casting, suitable for belt 25 mm wide. Great accessory for historical costumes, reenactments or collector's purpose.
The Vendels were an important Germanic tribe based in Sweden before the advent of the Viking era. They were famous for their rich grave finds, which include decorated helmets, weapons and belt fittings with detailed animal motifs and ornaments. These artefacts demonstrate an advanced craft tradition and links to the elites throughout northern and central Europe. The Vendelian style is a symbol of the prestige, power and craftsmanship of the metalworkers.
