This distinctive Viking button with a carved dragon head is made from real bone and is a clever way to close a medieval bag.
The bone closure has been handmade to a historic pattern from the Viking era and is decorated with a carved dragon head. The original is now in the British Museum in London.
The Viking bone cap is drilled through the mouth of the dragon's head so that a leather strap can be threaded through it and attached to the bag. A small leather handle serves as a counterpart to the closure, which you push through a hole in the bag lid and then close.
The Viking bag closure measures approximately 7 x 1.2 x 1 cm.
