Viking Huginn and Muninnround shield with parchment edge, Ø 80 cm.
This large, beautiful Viking shield we offer here is made of approximately 13 mm thick plywood and decorated with two ravens. The motif of a pair of birds represents Hugin and Muninn, the faithful messengers of Odin, a recurring theme in Viking art. According to Norse mythology, the ravens fly over Ásgard and Midgard, returning each evening to the Father of all Gods to tell him all they have seen and heard.
In the middle of the shield is a larger steel puck, which is held firmly in place by four rivets and provides plenty of room for strong Viking hands. The edge of the shield is lined with rawhide (parchment) and the back is fitted with three riveted wood reinforcements. The middle brace also serves as a handle, which is wrapped in leather in its central part for a comfortable grip.
While slightly thinner and therefore not suitable for full contact, this early medieval wooden shield is a great accessory for reenactment, LARP, theatrical performance or TV/film and will perfectly transform you into a proud Norse warrior. In addition, it is also suitable as a collectible or decorative shield for all Viking era enthusiasts.
