Viking round shield with ravens motif, Ø 61 cm.
This beautiful Viking shield, which we offer here, is made of approximately 13 mm thick plywood, covered with linen fabric and decorated with so-called triquetra (three-leaf or triple knots) and ravens. The motif of a pair of birds represents Hugin and Munin, the faithful messengers of Odin, a recurring motif in Celtic and Viking art. According to Norse mythology, ravens fly over Ásgard and Midgard, returning each evening to the Father of all gods to tell him all they have seen and heard.
Included is a knocker that can be easily attached to the shield using the rivets provided. The hood provides plenty of room for even strong Viking hands. The back of the shield is painted black and fitted with a solid wood handle.
While this early medieval wooden shield is lighter and thinner and therefore not suitable for full contact, it is still a great accessory for LARP, theatrical performance or TV/film. In addition, it is also suitable as a collectible or decorative shield for any Viking era enthusiast.
