Roman vitis stick - a tribute to tradition and strength

This highly detailed and hand-carved staff is inspired by the vitis, the traditional staff of Roman centurions, which was a symbol of their rank, authority and responsibility. It served not only as an expression of command, but also as a means of maintaining discipline in the legions. In the hands of the centurion, it represented not only military strength but also responsibility to his unit and the order of the Roman Empire.

In ancient Rome, the vitis was made from the vine - hence its name - and was often worn by centurions as a badge of their power. It was not just a ceremonial object - it was a practical tool for punishing disobedient soldiers and a symbol of direct command. This is why the vitis came to embody discipline, authority and the traditional military spirit of Rome.

A modern reinterpretation with respect for history

The author of this cane has chosen to pay tribute to this ceremonial object through a carefully crafted piece of art and craftsmanship. This vitis is hand carved from wood.

Part of the cane is covered with high quality, hand-stitched cowhide leather, which ensures a comfortable and secure grip. The leather finish is not just a practical feature - it brings a sense of ancient luxury to the whole and a connection with traditional materials.

A Latin inscription is engraved around the perimeter of the cane:

"Si vis pacem, para bellum."
(If you want peace, prepare for war.)

This phrase, attributed to the Roman author Vegetius, perfectly captures the philosophy of the Roman Empire - stability and peace were secured by force and discipline.

  • Perfect balance - the staff is balanced so that it fits naturally in the hand. Length: 95 cm

  • Comfortable grip - thanks to the soft, firm cowhide leather cover, it sits firmly in the hand and does not slip.

  • Handmade - each piece is an original, made with attention to detail and traditional carving and basketry techniques.

  • Made in the Czech Republic - honest Czech craftsmanship is combined with inspiration from the ancient world.
