Katzbalger was a short sword used in the 15th and 16th centuries as part of the equipment of German and Swiss Landsknechts, renowned as elite mercenaries. This double-edged sword with a straight blade was ideal for close combat, where speed and agility were crucial. Its most distinctive feature was the S-shaped guard, which provided hand protection and improved weapon control.
