A kuksa is a wooden cup with a handle, based on traditional Sámi vessels. In the northern wilderness, it is used for drinking water, coffee or tea, as well as scooping food. This version is made from rubberwood.

  • Material: rubberwood
  • Capacity: approx. 200 ml
  • Dimensions: 5.5 × 14 cm
  • Made in Czechia

Its Sámi name is guksi, while the term kuksa comes from Finnish. It is associated with the culture of the Sámi, the indigenous people of the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula. It forms part of their personal equipment when travelling, fishing, hunting and herding reindeer.

Traditional kuksa making is part of the Sámi craft tradition known as duodji. Craftspeople carve kuksas primarily from birch burls, whose densely interwoven wood fibres give the vessel strength.
