An 18th-century civilian sword with a scabbard
This civilian sidearm was developed during the Baroque period. Beginning in the mid-17th century, it gradually replaced the rapier as demand grew for lighter and less bulky weapons that were more practical for everyday carry. This type of weapon was worn primarily by members of the upper classes.
The cord has a blunted blade made of EN45 spring steel with a triangular cross-section. The guard and the curved hand guard are made of brass. The wooden hilt is wrapped in brass wire.
The scabbard is made of wood covered with leather and fitted with brass fittings and suspension rings. It also includes a hook for attaching the scabbard to a belt.
