This Celtic brooch is based on a medieval depiction and features a motif of hunting dogs, known as the Cŵn Annwn.
The three dogs on the brooch chase one another, their bodies forming a triple spiral—the triskelion, an ancient Celtic symbol of the trinity that represents life, death, and rebirth in Celtic culture.
The historical illustration that served as the model for this hunting dog brooch comes from the Book of Kells, an Irish manuscript from the early Middle Ages. The motif is associated with the Cŵn Annwn, the Celtic hounds of Arawn, the ruler of the Otherworld.
