Cult of the head

The cult of the head among the Celts was an important symbolic and spiritual element of their culture. The head was perceived as the seat of the soul, identity and life force, and was therefore attributed extraordinary power. Warriors often carried the heads of defeated enemies as trophies, which were not only meant to prove their courage but also to symbolically transfer the power of the opponent to the victor. These heads were displayed at dwellings or stored in sacred places and in some cases preserved in special ways.

At the same time, the motif of the head was strongly reflected in Celtic art and religious imagery, where it appeared in the form of statues, reliefs and stylised representations. Archaeological findings show that these were not just legends, but a real part of ritual practice. For the Celts , the head was not only a physical part of the body, but above all a powerful symbol connecting the world of the living, the dead and the divine forces.
