The Man of Damendorf is the name given to a well-preserved bog mummy from the Roman Imperial period, discovered in 1900 during peat mining in Seemoor near the village of Damendorf in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The discovery included not only bodily remains but also clothing, which is now on display in the Archaeological Landesmuseum at Gottorf Castle in Schleswig.
Clothing. The cloak was rectangular in shape, originally measuring approximately 238 × 183 cm, with visible signs of wear and repair. The trousers were of a finer woollen fabric and reached down to the ankles. The calf wraps measured approximately 105 cm in length and 10 cm in width. The leather boots were made from a single piece of leather and fastened with straps.
This find provides a valuable insight into the clothing habits and life of people in northern Europe during the Roman Empire.
