The fighting hares come from Irish legend. The hare is seen as a "pooka" or spirit that can change shape and appear and disappear at will. It is a very powerful spirit. Hares are born fully furred and with their eyes open, which means they are always ready and alert.
The Celtic hare is an important symbol in Irish and Scottish mythology. It is considered a sacred animal with magical powers, often associated with the moon and fertility deities. It is believed that hares are messengers from another world and that their elusiveness and nocturnal activity lends them mystery and wisdom. The motif of witches turning into hares appears in Celtic legends. People protected them and killing a hare could bring bad luck. The hare also symbolizes renewal and the cycles of nature, especially spring. In Irish and Scottish tradition, the animal is deeply rooted in folk beliefs and rituals.
