Inspired by the reign of Caesar around 50 BC, the Caesarean helmet was created. This replica with brass plated steel construction is not only comfortable but also fully functional.
The helmet is based on a find from Vieille-Toulouse, France, known as HelmetD.78.6.1 from the Musée Saint-Raymond in Toulouse. This original dates from the period 60-40 BC, is bronze and probably of Roman type. It has a rounded shape, a slightly elongated occipital cover and a decorative torsion bar which gives it a unique character. It thus represents a transition between the Celtic and Roman styles.
The helmets of the Roman legionaries who fought alongside Caesar during the Gallic Wars were usually simple brass or bronze bowls with a small nape cover. The cheekpieces were iron rings attached by a leather strap.
Although this replica resembles a modern helmet in shape, it is a faithful reconstruction of an original Roman find from the time of Caesar - that is, from the turn of the Celtic and Roman worlds.
