The La Tène B sword was one of the most successful weapons of antiquity and originated among the Celtic tribes in the 4th century B.C. It was a highly versatile weapon suitable for both chopping and pointing, with a blade length of approximately 60-70 cm and a typical lenticular cross-section. Due to its high quality workmanship and advanced design, it was a technologically advanced and relatively expensive item, initially intended primarily for the warrior elite.

With the expansion of the Celts into Italy, this type of sword quickly spread to other peoples, including the Romans, who adopted it wholesale and used it for several centuries. Its importance was so fundamental that it influenced the Latin name for the sword (gladius), derived from the Celtic name.
