This model of a bascinet helmet on a base is made of resin, hand painted and measures 7 cm in height. On the base is the inscription "Bascinet". The model comes in a white box with an identification label on the front.
This type of bascinet helmet dates from the 14th century. Early helmets of this type were open combat helmets. As the helmet evolved, a ring neck guard (a hinge made of ring armour) was added to the helmet, which was later replaced by a metal visor. From about 1380 onwards, the visor, which was by then already considerably larger than in the earlier types, began to stretch into a conical shape resembling a snout or beak, as can be seen in this model.
