This badge with a Roman gladiator helmet motif is made of lead-free pewter and comes as a brooch with a pin and separate clasp. The gladiator was a professional fighter in ancient Rome. The badge is mounted on an information card, which shows a Roman flag on the front with an ornamental design on the sides. On the reverse side, the card describes the origins of Rome.

Rome was originally a small city on the banks of the Tiber River in western Italy. Although its early development was linked to trade, it was wars that made it one of the most powerful forces in the ancient world. The Roman army first fought the surrounding tribes and Etruscan cities in Italy, later dominating the Mediterranean region and, at its height, provinces such as Britain and Asia Minor.

Roman laws, roads, architecture, coins, clothing and jewellery spread with these conquests.
