Helmets of the Imperial Italic type, which include the version referred to as 'G', were used by Roman legionaries in the 1st to 2nd centuries AD. This type of helmet featured a rounded shape, providing protection for the entire head, and protruding cheekpieces that protected the face without restricting movement or vision. The brass appliqués on helmets were not only decorative but often functional, strengthening critical parts of the helmet against damage in combat.
Imperial Italic helmets were produced in several variations in different parts of the Roman Empire. The "G" model originated in the area of present-day Hebron and is known for its sturdiness and ornate details. The steel construction with brass elements reflects the technological advances of Roman blacksmiths who were able to combine protection and appearance. This type of helmet was probably used by soldiers in the provinces on the eastern edge of the Roman Empire, where there was contact with Middle Eastern cultures.
