This set of stones for the game Hnefatafl follows the old Nordic tradition of strategy games played long before chess.

Each stone has its own role - the one-eyed king represents Odin, his defenders carry the motif of ravens, and the attackers recall the power of sea serpents. The symbolism is based on motifs that have haunted northern Europe for centuries.

The set includes 37 figures made of zinc alloy. One king figure and two types of stones for defenders and attackers. The finish highlights the engraved details.

The stones are suitable for playing at home, on the go and as part of a themed set. The symbolism may appeal to lovers of mythology and historical games. They feel firm in the hand and the distinct motifs make the game clear even at a faster pace.

  • Material zinc alloy
  • Size: 37 playing pieces
  • Made in the Czech Republic - own production

TAFLU rules:

  • All stones can move like a chess rook in all directions until they hit an obstacle.
  • Only the king can enter the center square and the corners of the board, the other stones can only skip the center square in their move.
  • Each stone (except the king) is captured if it is so pinned by enemy stones on two opposite sides that it can no longer move.
  • If a player moves a stone into this position himself, it is not captured.
  • It is also possible to capture more than one opponent's stone in one move.
  • The corners and the center square without the king can also be used for capturing, thus representing one encircling stone.
  • A king is captured if it is surrounded on all four sides or on three sides and by a throne.
  • The king can be captured in the same way as the other stones.
