Origin of the Nakiri Knife

The name Nakiri (菜切包丁) comes from Japanese. The word na (菜) means "vegetable", while kiri (切り) means "to cut". The name therefore literally translates as "vegetable cutting knife." The Nakiri was developed as a specialised kitchen knife for the daily preparation of vegetables in Japanese households and remains one of the most popular knives for anyone who values precise, fast, and clean cutting.
