Megalodon was a prehistoric species of shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago. It is considered one of the largest and most powerful predators that have ever existed. It is estimated that it could have grown up to 25 metres or more in length.
Fossil finds suggest that it had a robust, hydrodynamic body and massive teeth, some of which measured over 18 cm. Megalodon was an apex marine predator and probably hunted large marine mammals such as whales. Despite its impressive size and adaptation to ocean life, it became extinct around 3.6 million years ago.
