Plate gauntlets were an important part of medieval armour, protecting the hands of knights as well as foot soldiers. Their development dates back to the 14th century, when the transition from mail gloves to fully plated construction began. Thanks to a system of articulated plates, they provided significantly better protection against cutting and crushing blows without restricting grip or fine motor skills.

This reconstruction is based on preserved historical originals. The segmented construction of the fingers and joints ensures smooth movement and comfort while worn, while the robust plate elements on the back of the hand and forearm offer a high level of protection during reenactment, fencing training, or tournaments.
