Medieval earrings in the shape of a shell.
These shell earrings are based on medieval pilgrim badges that were designed in the shape of scallop shells.
The shell earrings measure 4,2 × 2,5 cm including the ear hook.
Large scallop shells were originally used on the coast of Galicia as ladles and drinking vessels. In the Middle Ages, it became customary to attach a scallop shell to a pilgrim's staff or clothing when returning from a pilgrimage as a sign that the pilgrim had indeed reached his or her destination.
