Strike shield for HMB. The striking shield is based on the shields used during the XIVth and XVth centuries. Nowadays they are used a lot for the sport called Buhurt or HMB (Historical Medieval Battles). Shields have not only a defensive function but also an offensive function as they are used to strike blows.
The edge of the shield is made of rawhide. The shield is held by a system of leather straps. The body of the shield is made of three layers of 3 mm thick plywood. The front side of the shield is covered with two layers of tent canvas (cotton). This coating gives the shield more mechanical resistance.
