Silver earrings with faceted moldavites combine fine jewellery craftsmanship with the uniqueness of this Czech gemstone. Moldavite, also known as vltavín, is an exceptionally rare tektite formed approximately 15 million years ago during the impact of a giant meteorite in what is now Bavaria. Fragments of molten rock were blasted by immense pressure and heat all the way to South Bohemia and Moravia, where deposits of this green, cosmic-origin stone gradually formed. Its colour ranges from light bottle green to deep emerald, always carrying a mysterious sheen that makes it highly valued both as jewellery and a collector’s stone.
Moldavites are prized not only for their rarity — as natural reserves are rapidly diminishing — but also for the traditions associated with them. It is said that Winston Churchill carried a piece of moldavite in his pocket for good luck, and in South Bohemia it was customary to give women this stone as a symbol of love and protection.
