Padded doublet, also known as gambeson, pourpoint or aketon, is an almost essential piece of equipment for historical combat and fencing. This padded coat was worn under plate armour in the High and Late Middle Ages and was characterised by a short, close-fitting cut. It increased the comfort of wearing the knight's armour, helped to cushion the blows of the opponent and thus reduced the risk of injury.

  • Outer layer of cotton canvas,
  • a padding layer of polyester,
  • an inner lining of cotton.
  • Top material: 330gsm canvas made of 100% cotton
  • Inner lining: 100% cotton
  • Filling (padding): 100% polyester
  • Total length for size L: approx. 72 cm (measured from the highest point of the shoulder)
  • Collar height: approx. 6.5 cm
  • Colour: burgundy/black (also available: olive green/black)

Different types of stitching ensure stable padding and increase wearing comfort. The laces are used for fastening. Additional eyelets with embroidery in the waist and sleeve areas allow attachment of trousers or plate armour parts.

The specially lengthened armholes may look unusual at first, but are typical of the late 14th century. The high collar is also specially cut and greatly increases the comfort of wearing the armour in the neck area.
