Gambeson is almost indispensable for stage or free fight. Gambeson, also called gambison, quilted coat or aketon, was worn under plate and ring armour in the Middle Ages. It increased the comfort of wearing armour and could cushion the blows of an opponent, thus reducing the risk of injury.

This Ulfberth gambeson is made of three layers of fabric: an outer layer of cotton canvas, a padding layer of polyester and an inner lining of cotton. The stitching on the torso is diamond-shaped, while the stitching on the sides and sleeves is vertical. The gambeson is worn over the head, with lacing at the neckline and sides. The sleeves are fastened with non-stitched laces and can be detached as required. The high collar greatly enhances comfort when wearing parts of the armour or ring shirt around the neck.

To determine your size according to your body measurements, please measure horizontally at the widest point. For tops, please refer to the chest circumference. If you are between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger option. An allowance for a comfortable fit is already included in the fit.
