Moravian Eagle – a pendant for proud inhabitants of this beautiful historic land.
The Moravian Eagle is one of the oldest heraldic symbols of a historic land in Central Europe. Its origins date back to the 13th century, when it became the heraldic emblem of the Margraves of Moravia from the Přemyslid dynasty. In heraldry, it is depicted as a crowned eagle with red-and-silver chequered plumage on a golden shield. From the beginning, it symbolised the distinct identity of the Margraviate of Moravia within the Lands of the Bohemian Crown and appeared on seals, coins, charters and provincial banners. Over the centuries, it underwent several modifications by rulers intended to emphasise dynastic or state representation, while its basic heraldic form remained preserved.

The Moravian Eagle in its present form was probably introduced in the mid-13th century during the reign of Ottokar II of Bohemia. The oldest known colour depiction of the Moravian Eagle can be found at Gozzoburg Castle in Krems an der Donau, Austria, which formed part of the domains of Ottokar II of Bohemia.
