Viking bracelet from Lummelund / Gotland
A massive Viking bracelet based on a historic silver bracelet found in Lummelunda on the island of Gotland.
The original Viking bracelet was made of solid silver and found on the Swedish island of Gotland near the village of Lummelunda. The bracelet was very sturdy and therefore extremely valuable. It probably belonged to a powerful jarl or an important leader.
The original from Lummelunda was made of silver wires of varying thickness and is now on display in the Swedish National Museum. Our replica is cast in one piece and can be opened or closed with a little force.
Bracelet dimensions:
The bracelet is 12 mm thick at its widest point and can be adjusted to a circumference of approximately 20 to 22 cm, making it ideal for strong male hands.
In the Viking period, such a massive bracelet could be made not only of bronze, but also of silver or even gold, and was intended exclusively for powerful jarls or great warriors to show their status.
Viking chieftains gave valuable bracelets like this one to their loyal followers for exceptional deeds. These gifts were a manifestation of their wealth and power, while ensuring the loyalty and favour of the recipient.
Such valuable bracelets were called oath bracelets and emphasized the strong bond between the givers and the recipients.
