Viking fire-making set with tinder, flint and sharpener.

The curved shape of the tinderbox is typical of the Viking era, but was also common among Germanic and Slavic peoples in the early Middle Ages. The sharpener is made of carbon steel and easily produces sparks.

The set includes a flint, whose sharp edge is very good for creating sparks, and a waterproof plastic bag with nitrided tinder made from so-called orobince, which can be easily ignited.

The fire starter kit includes:

  • Viking-era tinderbox 10 x 4 cm
  • 1 gram of tinder
  • Tinder

Build a fire like the Vikings: with a little practice, you can easily start a fire with the help of a sharpener, flint and the right tinder.

To do this, strike the sharp edge of the flint against the tinder to create small sparks that jump to the tinder. It is important to keep the supplied tinder from the burr as close to the edge of the flint as possible.

Once the tinder is hot, you can create a small flame by blowing gently and steadily. This should be 'fed' as quickly as possible with more tinder, for example rotten wood fibres, birch bark or thin pine shavings.
