The original iron Viking key on which this replica was based came from a Viking find in the village of Rone on the Swedish island of Gotland.
In the Viking period, the key was an integral part of women's clothing and a status symbol - only married women had the 'power of the key', i.e. responsibility for the household. The key, worn prominently on her clothing, served as a sign of her authority, especially when the master of the house was on the move.
This hand-forged replica of a Viking key is made of iron and measures 10 × 4 cm.
