Replica of the Viking castle from Birka
A hand-forged Viking castle that was faithfully made from an original find from the archaeological excavations of the Viking town of Birka on the Swedish island of Björkö in Lake Mälaren.
The original Birka castle dates back to the 8th or 9th century and was found during excavations on the island of Björkö in Lake Mälaren, Sweden.
In the Viking Age, a castle was simply indispensable for safely storing valuables and utensils in its own wooden box or larger chest.
Our replica of a Viking castle from Birka is hand forged. The elaborate locking mechanism inside the lock consists of three pins with springs that lock the lock.
Using the included three-hole key, these springs are compressed and pulled upwards when inserted. The entire top of the Viking lock, including the latch, can then be opened.
The Viking lock from Birka is ideal for locking medieval chests and Viking boxes.
Dimensions of the Birka lock: 5 × 6 × 12 cm.
