VIRIDIA - silver ring with malachite is a tribute to the craft and charm of ancient Rome. The shape and small details are based on the rings that adorned the hands of Roman matrons during the Empire. The delicate relief is reminiscent of filigree, but instead of wire casting, the ring is cast in solid Ag 925/1000, giving it security and durability.
The center of the ring is a smooth cabochon-cut malachite. The green banding is unique to each piece; the Greeks called it malache - for the color of the mallow. In the ancient world, malachite was popular for its lush green color and as a talisman of protection, health and abundance. The Romans set it in gemmas and intaglios, it was worn when travelling and given to children for good luck.
VIRIDIA gives the impression of a ring that might have been found in the excavations of Pompeii, yet it stands on contemporary, honest craftsmanship.
