Excalibur - the legendary sword of King Arthur

Excalibur is the legendary sword of King Arthur, sometimes attributed with magical powers or associated with the rightful reign of Great Britain. This sword was early on associated with the legends of Arthur. It is called Caledfwlch in Welsh, Calesvol in Cornish, Kaledvoulch in Breton and Caliburnus in Latin.

The history and legend of King Arthur are closely linked to this magical and mysterious sword. As the wizard Merlin declared, only he who can draw the sword from the stone will become king. Arthur knelt before the stone and performed this act, and in the presence of all the barons and common people, he solemnly swore that he would be a just king and would uphold truth and justice all the days of his life. Over time, legend and history became intertwined and the legend of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table and the magical sword Excalibur became an integral part of the story.
