Moldavite is a tektite, meteorite glass, formed as a result of a meteorite impact approximately 15 million years ago. Its occurrence is mainly associated with South Bohemia and the area around the lower Vltava River. These unique stones are highly valued worldwide. Moldavites from Bohemia are considered the most beautiful.
In South Bohemia, there was a tradition that every young man gave moldavite to his future bride as proof of his deepest feelings. Interestingly, W. Churchill always carried moldavite in his pocket for good luck.
