A replica of a medieval sword circa 1480.

The blade has an improved distal taper, making the sword more agile and faster. The scabbard now contains a wooden core under the outer leather layer. The hilt is covered in leather with dimples created by the historically authentic "wet-wrap" process, during which a fine cord is wrapped tightly around the damp leather hilt. Once dry, the cord is removed, leaving attractive striations on the leather that provide the perfect texture and grip.

This sword is on display in the German Armory Schloss Erbach and is an excellent example of a sword from the High Middle Ages/Renaissance (classified as Oakeshott Type XVIII A). It is a truly beautiful example of a "bastard" sword (a sword for one and a half hands), effective in both chopping and stabbing. The steel parts are very decorative and the carbon steel blade is slightly concave, giving the sword an excellent feel when used with one or two hands. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts®.

The leather handle and scabbard are dark brown.

Can be found in the book "Records Of The Medieval Sword" by Ewart Oakeshott.
