Hati and Sköll are wolves from Norse mythology who play a key role in the Ragnarök cycle, the end of the world. The name Sköll means "Mockery" or "Defilement". Sköll chases the sun (Sól) across the sky. His mission is to swallow the sun during Ragnarök, causing darkness and chaos. The name Hati means "Hate" or "Enemy". Hati chases the moon (Máni) and, like Sköll, swallows it during Ragnarök, thus extinguishing the night light.

Hati and Sköll personify the constant threat of chaos and destruction. Their constant pursuit of the sun and moon represents the cycle of time and the inevitable presence of fate in Norse mythology. Their act at Ragnarök is symbolic of the end of the old world and the beginning of a new cycle.
