Ammonites were an extinct group of marine invertebrates. They lived in the oceans approximately 240 to 65 million years ago, when they became extinct along with the dinosaurs.
They were predators of the cephalopod group, which includes their modern-day relatives octopuses, squid and cuttlefish. They fed on a variety of marine organisms, including molluscs, fish and other cephalopods.
