This ammonite-shaped pendant is made of lead-free pewter and is cast directly from a real fossil. The pendant comes on a silver chain and is attached to an information card that explains basic information about ammonites.

Ammonites were an extinct group of marine invertebrates. They lived in the oceans approximately 240 to 65 million years ago, when they became extinct along with the dinosaurs. The name "ammonite" comes from the Greek god Ammon, who was depicted with ram's horns.

Ammonites were a group of cephalopod predators, which includes their modern-day relatives octopuses, squid and cuttlefish. They fed on a variety of marine organisms, including molluscs, fish and other cephalopods.

Over millions of years, their shells became fossilised. Findings of particular species or genera in certain rock layers can often be used to determine their age and place them in specific geological periods.
