This medieval shield comes from eastern Bohemia in the mid-15th century. On the front side there is a painted decoration of the wrestling match between David and Goliath. David is carrying a satchel on his side, holding a slingshot with a stone in his right hand and a staff in his left hand. Goliath is depicted in profile wearing a cuirass and a shirt of ringed netting. On his head is a helmeted sage. He carries a sword at his side and holds a spear and banner. A Czech inscription, written in Gothic minuscule, is painted around the perimeter.
