Medieval earrings in the shape of a Tudor rose.
The historical predecessor of these medieval earrings is the English belt fitting in the shape of the so-called Tudor rose, which dates back to the 16th century.
The medieval Tudor Rose earrings measure 4,5 × 2,5 cm including ear hooks.
The Tudor Rose depicts the union of two roses - the red rose of the House of Lancaster and the white rose of the House of York. This emblem was introduced by Henry Tudor after he defeated his rival Richard at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.
This brought a definitive end to the 30-year conflict known as the War of the Roses between the rival English noble houses of York and Lancaster. Henry married Elizabeth of York to unite the opposing sides and became King of England.
