Moldavite is a tektite, a type of meteorite glass formed by the impact of a meteorite approximately 15 million years ago. Its occurrence is mainly limited to South Bohemia and the lower course of the Vltava River. These unique stones are highly valued worldwide, and Czech moldavites are considered the most beautiful.
In South Bohemia, there was a tradition in which every young man gifted a moldavite to his bride-to-be as a token of his deepest feelings. Interestingly, Winston Churchill always carried a moldavite in his pocket for good luck.
