This pendant in the shape of a Greek coin is made of lead-free pewter. The obverse side of the coin features the Goddess Athena and the reverse side features an owl. The pendant comes on a waxed cord and is attached to a folding information card.

The information card on the front depicts a silver Greek coin, the head of Medusa and classical Greek ornamentation on the sides. The reverse side contains information on the use of Greek mythology motifs in jewellery.

Motifs and creatures from Greek mythology were commonly depicted on coins and jewellery in ancient Greece . Jewellery made of gold and precious stones was worn mainly by wealthy people, usually on special occasions.

The motif of the owl was widespread because the Goddess Athena was the patron goddess of Athens and the owl was her symbol. The Minoans depicted octopuses on their pottery and frescoes, and the island of Aigina minted coins with a turtle motif.
