Dilophosaurus is one of the most interesting theropod dinosaurs of the early Jurassic. This predatory dinosaur, best known for the movie Jurassic Park, was actually much different than how pop culture portrays it. It lived around 193 million years ago, reaching lengths of up to 7 metres. A typical feature was the two thin ridges on the skull, which were probably used for visual communication. Fossils of Dilophosaurus have been discovered in North America and provide valuable information on the evolution of early carnivorous dinosaurs. Dilophosaurus represents a key species for understanding theropod diversification and the evolution of predation strategies during the Jurassic period.
